1. Welcome.
Welcome back. As the year 2000 comes to a close, we take
time to reflect on what we have accomplished in the past twelve
months and make plans for the year 2001. I hope you all had a successful
year. As many of you know, one of my major goals for the year was
to get published in trade journals across the country. I am pleased
to say that as of this date, 18 regional and national magazines
now carry my business articles. These magazines represent over 300,000
readers.
A recent article in Design/Build Magazine outlines specific strategies
for creating partners out of your customers. The idea of customer
partnerships is a forward thinking strategy that can yield huge
benefits and profits. Whether you are in the construction industry
or not, you can apply the strategies I outline in this article in
your business.
2. Quick Tip.
Quick question - How do you get Top Dollar for
your product or
service in a heavily competitive marketplace?
Answer: It is not easy to command Top Dollar in
an intensely competitive marketplace. However, if you will ask your
premier customer what makes your company stand apart from the others,
you will begin to learn how you can get Top Dollar. Ask them what
they consider to be the real value of what you do. Likely, a repeatable
theme will rise to the top. It may be anything from responsiveness
to creativity to exquisite customer service. When you begin to hear
a common theme, take it and run with it. Use it in all of your promotional
material, make it a part of your mission statement, and use it in
all of your sales dialogue. You will also find that by emphasizing
this theme you will attract more customers with a better fit for
your services.
3. Become the Contractor of Choice.
Create a Vision
Few things are more powerful for your success than visualizing
your success in advance of its fruition. There are four basic steps
to creating a vision of your success. 1) Choose the goal. Set your
sights on what it is that you want. Use your imagination to picture
the thing you want to happen. 2) Clearly see the picture. Include
as many details as possible about this thing you want and see it
happening in the present tense as though it has already occurred.
3) Focus on it often. Bring your mental picture of success to mind
frequently. Meditation and concentration on this thing you want
will help make it a reality. It will be as though you have no choice
but to accomplish it. 4) Be Positive. Think of it in a positive,
reaffirming way. Giving your vision positive energy will strengthen
your vision.
4. "Book Ends".
Don't Set Goals (The Old Way) by Wade Cook is a quick
read. Want to finish what you have started? This short book is about
getting your goals rather than just setting them. Cook gives his
formula for success and his view on how to get what you want the
old fashioned way. This is a no nonsense book about doing what it
takes to get things done. It is worth the investment. Lighthouse
